Neurodivergent affirming therapy for autistic humans.
Counseling for adults throughout North Carolina.
For autistics, the world can often feel too loud, too fast, too hard, and too bright.
Daily stressors can feel like death by a thousand cuts to your sensitive nervous system and autistic brain. Adjusting to last-minute routine disruptions can send us into freeze mode. Sensory sensitivities can make our nervous system feel…well, extra nervous. Our reactions can often feel like they’re on a delay, making it difficult to access how we feel in real time.
For many of us, we become ninjas at hiding authentic parts of us and ‘performing’ for social acceptance. And the more we mask, the more depressed and hopeless we can start to feel.
Many autistics can feel like aliens in a sea of neurotypical humans who don’t understand our intense experience of the world. We’ve heard too often that we’re ‘too sensitive,’ told to ‘grow a thicker skin,’ and have internalized the pain of years of feeling misunderstood, sometimes by mental health professionals.
But there is hope. And you deserve to work with a therapist who ‘gets it.’
With autism-affirming therapy, there’s a different way to heal.
My approach to therapy.
With an affirming and strengths-based approach, the goal of therapy is to help you manage your sensitivities and triggers, rather than trying to change or fix your brain.
I approach therapy with a spirit of collaboration, and always defer to you as the expert of your lived experience. I’m just your fellow neurospicy copilot, trauma research nerd, and resident somatic practitioner.
In therapy, I help clients practice unmasking, connect with you over special interests, teach you how to manage your sensory sensitivities and regulate your nervous system out of fight, flight, and freeze.
Neuroaffirming therapy can help you…
Identify and meet your social and sensory needs as a neurodivergent human.
Manage autistic burnout from a place of self-compassion.
Learn practical tools to support your sensitive nervous system.
Implement accommodations that support you in daily life.
Create a safe space to unmask.
Re-establish a trusting, nurturing relationship with your body.
Neuroaffirming therapy that meets you where you are.
Taking you from burned out to balanced.
Because you’re worth it.
